JUST IN: Noam Chomsky discharged from Sao Paolo hospital

According to the Folha de São Paulo newspaper, Chomsky was admitted to a hospital in the city a year ago due to a stroke that left him unable to move his right side of his body and talk.

Noam Chomsky, an American academic, linguist, and dissident, was released from a Sao Paolo hospital on Tuesday, according to the institution. He will continue an undisclosed course of therapy at home.

The news was released at the same time that Valeria Wasserman, the 95-year-old’s widow, denied in an email to AFP that Chomsky had passed away. He’s doing fine.

The pair resides in São Paulo.

Noam Chomsky rose to fame in the 1950s with his groundbreaking notion that an individual’s capacity to produce structured language is intrinsic.

He became an outspoken activist on an array of issues from US intervention in Vietnam to labor rights and the environment.
