Pandora Papers -By Azuka Onwuka
I see that in Peter Obi at a higher scale. After succeeding in his private business at an early age, he has been passionate to help in the arduous work of trying to see if the fortunes of Nigeria can be reversed like some great Asian countries have done.
I have never looked for a saint in the governance of Nigeria, because I know that it is rare to find a Nigerian politician who is not rotten. Even most people who are outside governance are merely praying and waiting for their own opportunity to come in and fleece the country.
I only need to see someone who is not rotten, someone who is pragmatic and result-oriented.
Among Nigerian politicians, Peter Obi is a saint, no matter what his shortcomings are. Anybody who disputes that is just concerned about bringing him down for the sake of politics, ethnicity, religion or some other non-governance related consideration. Luckily he is not a desperate politician. If Nigerians do not want him, he will continue running his life and doing his thing.
That is the same attitude I have about governance. I see leadership as pure service, not “a job.” It costs me my intellect, time, money and peace of mind. Any time I am called upon to serve the public in any capacity but the same people try to sabotage it, I move on with my life and concentrate on the things I am doing. I can be dogged in pursuing and defending what I believe in, but there is no office I cannot resign from, if need be. And there is no office I will lament over if I don’t get into it. It is never a do-or-die thing.
I see that in Peter Obi at a higher scale. After succeeding in his private business at an early age, he has been passionate to help in the arduous work of trying to see if the fortunes of Nigeria can be reversed like some great Asian countries have done.
I even pity anybody who genuinely wants to come in to attempt to rescue Nigeria after the economic and political devastation by Buhari. The storms against that person will be beyond description.
