The government of Edo State has denounced the rape and killing of Glory Adekolure, a UNIBEN graduate, who was allegedly raped and slain on Monday in Benin City’s Iyowa Community.

The 22-year-old Adekolure was allegedly being processed for her clearance on her way home when she was killed by unidentified individuals after being tortured and raped, and her body was dumped near her mother’s residence.

Obaseki expressed astonishment and sadness over the event in a statement released yesterday by Chris Nehikhare, the Commissioner for Communication and Orientation.

Nehikhare pointed out that the state commissioner of police has been given a seven-day deadline by the governor to find the people responsible for the act.

The statement read: “The Edo State Government is shocked and deeply saddened by the gruesome murder of Adekolure Idowu Glory, a fresh graduate of UNIBEN, who was allegedly raped and killed by yet-to-be-identified persons in Iyowa Community, within the Benin metropolis.

“It is most disheartening to hear of the sad incident and the state government condemns, in the strongest terms, the dastardly and unconscionable act.

“The Edo State Governor, Godwin Obaseki, expresses his deep-felt condolences to the family of the victim and has ordered the state Commissioner of Police, CP Funsho Adegboye to thoroughly investigate the circumstances that led to the death of Miss Adekolure Idowu Glory and fish out the perpetrators of the heinous and mindless act within the next seven days.”

Adekolure was said to have left home for the institution for her clearance on June 13, 2024, but returned lifeless.

A social media user, who tweets from @softbaba24, claimed the deceased, who was his younger sister, was returning home from school when the incident happened.
